Access 24-7...Is it too Much?
Technology
I have been told a few times in my life that it is important to find a balance. A balance between your work and your personal life. I never disagreed with this theory but when I was younger, being single at the time, there really wasn't anything to go home to and I poured myself into work. I come from a mother who at age 78 is still a workaholic.
When I got my Real Estate License, I, like every Realtor, made a conscious decision to never turn my cell phone off and to be there for Customers and Agents alike. In doing this, I only have 1 time in almost 5 years that a customer called me at 10:30 at night. Most times, I never mind answering a call, if I am available and able to.
On the flip side, I have come across many agents who turn their phones off on weekends, evenings or Sundays. They keep their business and personal lives totally separate. I have come across these agents when I have a buyer and they are the listing agent.
The question is, is Real Estate a different animal than other businesses? Don't we do the majority of our work at night and on weekends? We have to be available when the customers are or they will go elsewhere. How many times have we gotten customers who tell the story of "other agents" who never returned a call or were not available when they needed them?
In my current role as a Broker/Manager at Real Living Real Estate Solutions in Orlando, I feel that it is important for my agents to have the confidence that I will be there when they need me. That is what separates me from other Brokers and Managers.
