The Full Time/Part Time Dilemna
Recruiting
The company I used to work for said that they don't accept Part-Time Agents. Almost anyone in the business you speak to will tell you that it is very difficult, if not impossible to work in Real Estate Part-Time. Why? Simply, you have to be available when your customers want you or else they will go to someone else. In Orlando, they have 10,000 other choices. I used to talk in my training classes about being "Dressed for Real Estate". Dressed for Real Estate means that you are not only in presentable clothes but also have your business cards, nametag and electronic key to get into houses. This way, when a call comes in, out the door you go.
The company I used to work for said NO PART TIME AGENTS! This sounded good from a company standpoint but it never really worked in reality. Agents would come in and give a great speech on how they were eager to get started. They would pay their board dues and then, guess what? You would never see them again. We are all Independent Contractors. Agents can come and go as they please. It is the job of the company and the Broker to manage the agents. If an agent is not even showing a mild interest in the office and never comes to training classes or meetings, see ya later!
So back to the part time question. Part timers can work if they have a large circle of influence. If everyone they know and everyone they know sends business your way, then part time works. Another great option is to become a referral agent. Real Living Real Estate Solutions has a great referral company that allows you to fill out a piece of paper and earn commissions. The best part is that you don't even have to pay any board dues. There are agents out there making a great living referring everyone they know and making a referral fee on every deal that closes.
Take the time to learn about the company. Do your research and along with the Broker, you can find the best scenario for you and the company.
