You CAN Teach an Old Realtor New Tricks
Training
With a background in Corporate Training, I have attended many seminars. One of the seminars I attended was discussing various methods of teaching adults to learn. It stuck with me for all of these years because it is a simple concept. It is comprised of 4 easy words. TELL, SHOW, DO, REVIEW. That's it? That's it.
With any task that someone needs to learn you begin by telling them how to do it. You then demonstrate it by showing them how to perform the task. You then let them do the task. And finally you review what they did and start over again. Sounds simple, right? It is a simple concept and works extremely well. Without even realizing it, we are all Trainers. We train our children, we train our co-workers, we train our spouses and we even train those around us on a regular basis.
There are a few things that one needs to keep in mind with these steps. The first is to keep the "student" patient while you are Telling and showing them. The 2nd is when they do the task, you have to let them make their mistakes. If they are not actually "hands-on", they won't retain the memory or skill on how to complete the task. And lastly, you can review any and all parts of the Tell-Show_Do-Review for them. Adults learn at all different paces so making them feel comfortable is half the battle.
When it comes to teaching Realtors, this concept works well. Whether it is a technical issue, software or even role-playing, this method allows for Agents to learn at a rate that is best for their learning style.
