Selling With Style

I read an article recently that really hit the nail on the head in regard to how other people perceive us as Professionals. In the casual world that we live in, especially in places like Miami Beach, we can get a little too casual for the business that we are in. Here are the most important points:
·         Even if we don’t WANT to agree that people judge us on how we look, we KNOW that they do.
·         First impressions are made in anywhere between 9 to 30 seconds. If it’s not good right away, it is almost impossible to recover.
·         If your customer comes from a profession where a suit is the norm, then you better be in a suit too. Otherwise you could be viewed as not serious about their business.
·         Never, never show up for an appointment in jeans and tennis shoes. There is a point where casual becomes disrespectful.
·         Closings are a big deal. If you are collecting a commission the least you can do is where a jacket and/or tie. It’s the last time any of the other’s involved may see you and don’t you want to be the one they think of for referrals?
·         Your car is a direct reflection of you and your style. If it is dirty or messy, you will be viewed as disorganized and that you don’t care enough about your customers to clean it out.
I found it a good reminder, that no matter how hard one works, or how smart one is, or how great one is at responding to emails 24 hours a day, it can all be ruined in les than 30 seconds if your appearance does not match expectations.
